Caribbean cupcake | Cayo Caulker, Belize

“Wow wow wow, you are freakin’ me out, ma’am, slow down”, shouted a dreadlocked local to me when I was walking down the main street of Cayo Caulker the first evening when I had arrived to this small Belizean island. I wasn’t running nor was I walking particularly fast, on my opinion. But apparently I was, on Cayo Caulker standards.

Running, rushing around, stressing or anything alike was not the business in Cayo Caulker. Walking with a shuffle, on the other had, was. Adopting the local style was a perfect for sucking in the chilled out atmosphere of Cayo Caulker,  spotting places to take a nap or sipping happy hour drinks, happy hour that was every single hour of the day.

Walk in a movie scene | Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo or, la capital, as the locals call it, swallows you easily with its colourful and characteristic zona colonial. It is like walking into a movie – particularly if you are a fan of Godfather. Hear the beat of bachata echoing in its streets, try its crazy fun night life, meet wonderful people and live a little.

Santo Domingo is the capital of Dominican Republic. The city is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas, and was the first seat of the Spanish colonial rule in the New World. Santo Domingo is the site of the first university, cathedral, castle, monastery, and fortress in the New World.

Mi pequeño San Juan

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This beautiful balcony with the cutest doorway displaying the words ‘Mi pequeño San Juan’ ‘my little San Juan’ somehow reflects the spirit of old San Juan. It is elegant, cute, soft and interesting at the same time. One of my favorite photos of the old San Juan.

Playa Rincón – Maybe the best beach in the world

It could be the way we arrived there – two hours on a horseback – or that I was in need of some peace, quiet and relaxation. What ever it was Playa Rincón took my breath away. When we arrived to the beach there was hardly anyone else there. This beach is probably one of the most underrated beaches, maybe because it lies in the very east corner of Samaná peninsula, Dominican Republic. It is still a little bit off the beaten track but I believe not for a long.

Havana collection

I know La Habana I, we met at a very speacial moment. Therefore, I might be biased to say this city rocks. I am quite sure, though, that it is not just how we met, La Habana really is stunning. Would you agree with me?

Cabarete Chillin’ | Dominican Republic

Cabarete was more than just surfing. It was also about chillin’ out in the beach, having afternoon happy hour mojitos, dancing bachata, and watching world class kite surfing .

Cabarete Surfcamp | Dominican Republic

One thing I have always wanted to try: surfing. One week in northern Dominican Republic, Cabarete, and I got on the board.

It was amazing, challenging, difficult, fun. The surf camp resulted in having sore arms, liters of sea water swallowed and some successful waves with the board. I would not call myself surfer after the camp but surely I will try again. I will need, though, quite many hours more on the board before reaching the level of our teachers…
